DIED

At sea, October 18th, 1871, on board the brig Shelehoff, Ashley Addison Crane, aged 22 years; son of Judge A. M. Crane, and for many years a resident of Alameda.

Obituary

At this early age has a bright and promising young man been taken from us. His frank and generous disposition, his courteous and manly conduct, and his cheerful humor, won him many friends, who will mourn his early death with true and heartfelt sorrow. As children we were constant companions, and our friendship grew into brotherly affection as we became older.

His sufferings are ended,
His soul is with the blest;
With angels bright attended
He finds eternal rest.
