John Harris Lessly was the son of James Elkins Lessly and Emily Harris. He was born in Randolph Co. MO and spent some time also living in Polk Co. MO as well. He served in the CSA in Company G, 11th Regiment Missouri Infantry along with his father James Elkins Lessly and his uncle John M. Lessly. He married Mary James "Mollie" Davis on 31 Jan 1871 in Howard Co., MO. She was the daughter of James M. Davis. They had 11 children and moved with other Lessly family members to Grayson Co., TX in the 1870s.
