Joseph was the beloved brother of findagrave contributor Frank Russo. He was an extremely successful hairdresser in New Jersey, with a waiting list that often was months long. He loved to make women look beautiful and worked long hours at the Salon. He was a great brother and a loving son to both my mom and dad. He gave me one of my most cherished Christmas presents, a baseball mitt, two weeks after our father died in 1971. I still have it to this day. He also bought me my first motorcycle as a graduation present from grammar school in 1973. He loved staying at his home in New Hope, PA and at his apartment in Center City, Philadelphia. Joseph, who was gay, began suffering from the effects from AIDS in the late summer of 1987 and died on the afternoon of January 4, 1988 at the age of 38. His funeral mass was attended by most of his friends and coworkers and customers who filled up the left side of the church. Only one of our relatives, our cousin Patty, showed up for the funeral. He was cremated and his cremains buried on top of our father's vault at the St. Peters Cemetery in New Brunswick, NJ. He was simply the best of the best and it is a shame that he contracted AIDS before it became a manageable disease. For those who knew him and loved him and still miss him, he will always be our "Joey" or "Joseph."
