Malissa Evelyn Johnston (M. Evylign in family records) was the daughter of William Daniel T."Wiley" and Sopha Ary (Arey) Johnston. She was born in Corona, Alabama in 1866 about a year after the Civil War ended and married Thomas Jefferson Atteberry when she was 19 years old, ca. 1885. Over the following 26 years, she had a total of 16 children, but she lost two who died young. Evelyn and Thomas lived in Alabama (one of her boys was born in Arkansas) until they moved to Missouri, as far as I can tell around 1917. She worked hard all her life, loved her large family, cooked, cleaned, canned, raised children and loved her grandchildren. She passed away at the age of 57 from a stroke in Sikeston, Missouri, when her youngest two - the twins - were just 12 years old. Malissa did not get to meet all of her 66 grandchildren, (52 of whom lived) who spread out not only in Missouri, but also Alabama, Arkansas, California, Arizona and Michigan.
