WEBB CITY, Mo. — Stephen L. Benjamin, age 59, of Webb City, passed away at 8:18 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin.

Steve was born Feb. 14, 1948, in Webb City, and had lived in Webb City most of his life. He was the owner of the Webb City Lumber Co. and later Steve's Paint and Hardware Store, from 1974 to 1999. He worked for the Webb City School District for five years and was currently employed with Herrman Lumber Co. in Joplin. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Steve was a past member of the Webb City Chamber of Commerce, the Webb City Lions Club and the Webb City Library Board.

One of Steve's greatest enjoyments was his collection of Christmas memorabilia that he would invite school groups and the community to see.

Steve married Anita Parsons April 28, 1973, in Webb City and she survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Jason Benjamin, Webb City; one daughter, Stephanie Mason and husband, Duke, Joplin, Mo.; his mother, Ginger English and husband, David, Webb City; two brothers, David Benjamin and wife, Cheryl, Olathe, Kan., and Chuck Benjamin and wife, Linda, Webb City; and two granddaughters, Maruim Benjamin and Devany Benjamin.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Benjamin.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Hedge-Lewis Chapel with Stan Parkison, Minister, and Dennis Gilbert officiating.

Burial with full military honors will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.

The family have requested memorial contributions to the Webb City Library.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home, of Webb City.
