Albert Henry Leavitt, Jr. "Al" "Junior" "Uncle Junior"
March 20, 1934 - March 6, 2022

Al passed away on the evening of March 6th, 2022 after a thankfully brief struggle with Parkinson's Disease. Al's dedicated caregiver, Bambi Baker, was by his side when he passed, just an hour after his children, Steve and Deby, had visited. While Al suffered from the disease for many years, it was only in the last eight days of his life that it finally kept him from doing the things he still loved. Al was comforted in those last days by visits from his sons Steve and Jeff, his daughter, Deby, a few more family members and friends and of course his dog, Rex.

Al was born on March 20, 1934 in Fresno, CA. He was the eighth of nine children, as well as fourth and last son of Albert Henry Leavitt, Sr. and Leona Inez (Gotterba) Leavitt.

With seven older siblings and especially with three older brothers, Al engaged in many mischievous adventures with his brothers. One of the stories most told was when they stuffed hay into an old pair of overalls with a rope attached while tossing it out onto Belmont Avenue just after a slight rise in the road, so drivers would think they had run over some poor farmer lying in the road. By the time the driver stopped and backed up to see the damage they had done, the "farmer" and the boys, were gone!

Al was also a racer for many years. He began with drag racing a B/Gas car and broke many race records in that car during his early years. He eventually moved on to racing go-karts and stayed in that sport for many years, both as a racer and a mechanic/builder. Al had many friends in the karting community and they all had amazing stories to tell about each other over the many years of racing with each other. He was a longtime member of the Kerman Kart Club and spent many hours racing that circuit and also helping others to learn and properly drive the circuit.

Through all of this racing, Al was mostly known as being an automobile mechanic in the "old style" before computers and advanced electronics seemed to take some skill and old fashioned know-how out of the equation. Even during his years as a lawnmower shop owner, he spent most of his time fixing and rebuilding small motors.

Al was preceded in death by his father and mother, Albert Sr. and Leona, his sisters Edna, Leona, Virginia and Cecelia, as well as his brothers Charlie (Bud), Jim and Bob. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley, but is survived by his ex-wife Dolores, and his four children, Deby, Steve, Jeff and Jennifer.

A visitation is scheduled for March 24th from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at Yost and Webb Funeral Home, followed by graveside services at Fresno Memorial Gardens on March 25th at 1:00 PM.
