S/Sgt. DANIEL N. TOWSE

"Sonny" Towse was born in Woburn on February 18, 1922. He attended Woburn schools and was well known as a member of Woburn High's track and basketball teams. An accomplished entertainer, "Sonny" gave generously of his talents as a dancer and singer in many local shows. While in the service he was in constant demand at camp entertainment.

On July 1, 1942, "Sonny" entered the U.S. Army Air Force, but he soon transferred to the 42nd Inf. (Rainbow Division). He landed with his division in France and participated in all its battles until his death on April 18, 1945, at Furth, Germany. "Sonny" was advancing over difficult terrain when he was hit by an enemy sniper. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart.

Surviving S/Sgt. Towse are his wife, Mrs. Virginia Towse, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel D. Towse..., three sisters and two brothers.

Originally buried in Germany, the remains of S/Sgt. Towse were reinterred at a family plot at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn, Mass., on Jan. 17, 1949.

Daniel Towse is also remembered in Groton Cemetery.
