U.S. Army Colonel Robert J. Kachmar (Retired), 92, of Luzerne, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 27, 2022 in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.

A life-long resident of Luzerne, he was a son of the late Joseph and Josephine Beretzky Kachmar.

Robert was a graduate of the former Luzerne High School and earned a degree from King's College.

He went on to proudly serve his Country in the U.S. Army where he retired with the rank of Colonel.

Robert had worked with the Social Security Administration as the Northeast Regional Director for many years.

He enjoyed spending time golfing with family and friends. No matter how well or how bad he played, he was happy just being with his family.

Robert will be sadly missed by his daughter: Karen McCollom; his son: Kevin (Kerri Raftery) Kachmar; his five grandchildren; his eight great-grandchildren; his brother: Joseph Matey; his nieces and nephews; and, his friends.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 22, 2022 in the Chapel of Christ the King at King's College, 29 W. North Street, Wilkes-Barre.

Interment will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at 02:30 PM.
