LAMAR - Funeral services for Robert Aaron were held on Saturday, April 29, 2006, at 1 p.m. at the Church of God in Lamar. The burial followed in the Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. The Rev. Levern Kirkland, the pastor of the Church of God, officiated the service.
Mr. Aaron was born Feb. 18, 1926, in Darlington County, a son of the late John Aaron and Roxie Howard Aaron. He was educated in the public schools of the county. Early in life he worked as a farmer in the county of his birth and was a member of the Church of God in Lamar. Mr. Aaron was joined in holy matrimony to the former Lula Woods, and from this union five children were born.
In the early 1960s, he and his family relocated to New York. His work ethic allowed him to succeed at many occupations, including shipping clerk, warehouseman and equipment operator. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters where he rendered dedicated service and remained a member in good standing until his retirement in 1985. He and his family returned to South Carolina in 1992 and enjoyed his life and retirement.
His everlasting love and concern for his family will never be forgotten. He extended his home with an open heart to others in need and those who know and love him will agree that he was a father and a friend to all. Two of his sisters, Nonie Mae Dove and Albertha Robinson and two of his brothers, Alonzo Aaron and Cornell Aaron preceded him in death. One of his sons, Robert L. Aaron and an infant daughter also predeceased him.
Surviving to cherish the loving memory and continue the legacy of Robert Aaron include his wife, Lula Mae Aaron; two sons, Herbert L. (Grace K.) Aaron and Cornelius (Willetta) Aaron; two daughters, Genesis (Raymond) Burbridge and Brenda J. (Leroy) Rouse; two brothers, Charles Lee Aaron and Joseph Aaron; three sisters, Viola Lighty, Josephine Jackson and Johnnie Mae Morales; his daughter-in-law, Ruth Aaron, his brother-in-law, Burnett Woods; a special aunt, Helen Aaron; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and very dear friends.
