SULPHUR -- Services for John Bailey Holmes, 92, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Bob Moody and Vernon Lawrence officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.

Holmes was born Aug. 28, 1906, at Connerville, I.T. He died April 1, 1999, at a Davis health care facility..

A son of the late Charles and Sarah Peavy Holmes, Mr. Holmes was reared at Pontotoc. He was married to Ruby Arbogast in 1934 at Madill. She preceded him in death in 1992.

Holmes attended East Central University, Ada, and lived in Konawa before moving to Sulphur in 1953. He was a public school teacher for 35 years and rancher. He was a member of the Masonic lodge for 68 years and a member of First United Methodist Church

Survivors include a daughter, Janet Millican, of Houston; a brother, Bilma Holmes, of Denver, two grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.

Bearers will be Paul Moore, Bill Williams, John Sparks, Bob and Rodney Callen and Ken Biggerstaff. G.T. "Doc" Easley and Gus Martin are honorary bearers.

Cowley-Krien Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
