DARLINGTON — Funeral services for James O. Britt, 72, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Aug. 13, 2004, in the Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Allen Lynch. Burial will follow in Darlington Memory Gardens directed by Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home.
Mr. Britt died Tuesday, Aug. 10, in an Augusta, Ga., hospital after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Lawrence Britt and Martha Hatchell Britt. He retired from American Can Co. after 24 years of service and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Britt was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
Surviving are his wife, Annie Hudson Britt of Darlington; two daughters, Teresa Britt Huddleston of Cookeville, Tenn., and Martha Britt (Jimmy) Drawdy of Lexington; three brothers, Richard (Agnes) Britt, Carl (Frances) Britt and Ernest (Geraldine) Britt, all of Darlington; one sister, Grace (Thomas) Weaver of Waycross, Ga.; three grandchildren, Russell Deas, James C. Jamie Drawdy III and Matthew Matt Drawdy; two great–grandchildren, Dakota Lane Drawdy and Kristi Kelly.
Active pallbearers will be Mike Britt, Al Britt, Rickie Britt, Randy Britt, Bruce Weatherford, Rickie Johnson, Jamie Drawdy, Matt Drawdy and Russ Deas.
Honorary pallbearer will be Red Harrell.
