Aaron Eli Cameron was a farmer, owning approximately 80 acres of farm land in the town of Middleburgh, Schoharie County, New York. During the Civil War, he served in Company L of the 5th Regiment of the New York Cavalry.

Aaron was the son of Robert Van Leuven Cameron and Maria Wiltsie who made their home in Taghkanic, Columbia County, New York. He was one of nine (9) children in the family.

Aaron married Caroline Crapser on Oct, 4 1834 in the Claverack Reformed Church in Claverack, Columbia County, New York. Together Aaron and Caroline raised four children: David Eli, Jacob Bradley, Alice and Frank. The family made their home in Middleburgh, Schoharie County.
