She was born in Hiran, Somalia, on October 21, 1981, as a member of the Hawiye clan, the largest Somali clan family in the Horn of Africa who traditionally inhabits central and southern Somalia, Somaliland, the Somali Region in Ethiopia, the North Eastern Province in Kenya, and Mogadishu, Somalia. She was educated as a child in Mogadishu, Somalia. At the age of eight years old she returned home from school one day to find that her entire family was gone. The Somali War broke out a few years later in 1992. At the time she was living with her uncle, who served as a member of the Somali parliament. When she was in her teens she decided to change how things were in her country of Somalia. She later became an activist and decided to run for a seat in the Somali parliament even at the objections of the Hawiye clan elders who frowned on her decision saying that she was acting like a prostitute. She went against the Hawiye clan elder's objections and was elected as an MP to the Somali parliament by defeating two other candidates she won a seat that was reserved for women in 2012. A Member of the Union for Peace and Development Political Party she began serving as an MP in the Federal Parliament of Somalia on January 1, 2012. Over the next few years, she became a parliamentarian who was loved and hated by all. She fought for equality and tried to make her country of Somalia better and to do away with war. During the Somali Parliamentary Election, she won an open parliamentary seat in her hometown of Hiran, Somalia, in 2016. She continued to fight for what she believed in and was preparing to be a candidate in the parliamentary elections in February of 2021 where she would defend her seat against five men, but the election was postponed amidst disagreements over the voting processes. On March 23, 2022, she was traveling with her bodyguards in a vehicle that was traveling through Mogadishu, Somalia, when they were attacked by a suicide bomber of the Al-Shabaab Terrorist Group. During the panic, a car bomb also exploded. She was killed along with 47 other people while another 105 people were seriously injured.
