Jon Barry Cannon, 66 of Arkansas City died Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Arkansas City. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Burden Cemetery.

Jon was born March 13, 1956 in Winfield. He graduated from Burden High School in 1974. Jon continued his education at Spartan School of Aeronautics and later KU Fire School and Paramedic School. On April 22, 1995 he married Janet R. Thomas in Arkansas City where the couple made their home. Jon was a fireman for the City of Arkansas City for 32 years. He then worked as a jet engine mechanic at General Electric for several years. Jon also was a tracker for Cowley County, a member of the SWAT team, and worked for the county roads division. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he was instrumental in starting a church security team.

Jon was a model husband, father, and mentor to numerous people throughout his life. He was a man of strong faith that never wavered. His impact on his family and friend's lives will live on for many years to come. He will be dearly missed.

Jon is survived by his wife, Janet Cannon of the home; sons, Tate Cannon of Tulsa, OK, Hayes Cannon of Wichita; brother Ron Cannon and wife, Teresa; nephew Chris Cannon and wife, Mandy all of Burden; great niece and nephew, Libby and Max Cannon.

He was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law.

A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church missions fund.
