Jean Jarvis Andrews, age 93, of Eden, LA, passed from this life peacefully on Friday, March 25, 2022. He was born to the union of Nimrod Taylor Andrews and Mildred (Finley) Andrews on August 14, 1928 in Jena, Louisiana.

Mr. Andrews was preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved wife of 56 years, Betty Ruth Andrews, a sister Mary Finn Chapman and a brother, Nimrod Taylor Andrews, Jr.

Mr. Jean was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jena, the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association, and was a Master Mason of the Carrietta Lodge F&AM.

He spent 58 years as an educator beginning as a teacher in 1951 at Nebo Elementary School, then to Trout Goodpine Elementary, Guidance Counselor at Jena High School, Principal at Jena Junior High and Jena High School where he retired after four years. He spent the last 23 years of his career as a migrant educator for the La. Dept of Education—all total 58 years. This being a long time for a fellow who did not expect to spend a day as a teacher. He always believed that God led him to such a wonderful profession so he could be in contact with so many wonderful children. Jean loved his students and enjoyed seeing them grow into the fine adults they would become. He had so many good memories and stories and always remembered something special about so many.

He spent his last year at home where he wanted to be, thanks to his wonderful team of caregivers. Lynell, Hayes, Alene, Bernice, Valerie and LaShonda cared for him so lovingly and made his days whatever he wanted them to be.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, March 26, 2022 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm and on Sunday at 12:00pm until time of service at Kinner & Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, March 27, 2022 at 2:00PM in the Chapel of Kinner & Stevens Funeral Home with Rev. Lynell Hatten officiating.

Mr. Andrews asked that donations in his honor be sent to the Youth Ministry at First Baptist Church of Jena.
