"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."
2 Timothy 4:7

George A. Fischer, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at the age of 94, in his home in Baton Rouge, LA. He was a native of Norman, OK.

He made New Orleans his home after marrying his loving wife, Lillian Mae Quigley.

He is survived by his wife Lillian, their children; Kevin A. Fischer (Deborah), Mary Fischer Carmouche (Scott), grandchildren; Tommy Rothermel (Rachel Yazbeck), Gretchen Rothermel (Govián España), Grant Rothermel, Christy Carmouche, Alexander Fischer and Tyler Richardson, and his great-grandchildren; Tavi and Gunnar España.

He is preceded in death by his son, Perry Thomas, his mother and father; Anna and George W. Fischer, and sisters; Loretta Fischer, Elizabeth Brookins (Joseph), Mary Ann Gallagher (Jim), Saloma Feltman (Donald), and Eileen Pettyjohn (Russell).

George led an illustrious life starting with joining the Merchant Marine as soon as he was old enough to fight in WWII in 1945, and ending his military career as a commissioned officer, First Lieutenant in the United States Army. He received many commendations from his commanders during his 9 years in the military. An excerpt from one of his commendations follows:

"Lt. Fischer is an exceptionally intelligent, well-read officer who performs each job in an outstanding manner; he is extremely loyal to his superiors and subordinates, yet tempers loyalty with an unbiased attitude. He is a very reliable individual, who accomplishes his duties in a commendable manner. The results he produces leave an impression of one who works well with the absolute minimum of supervision. He is mentally, morally, and physically, a fine officer."

These words summarized exactly how George continued to live his life. Throughout every endeavor he faced, he demonstrated excellent efforts to achieve the highest standard of accomplishments. He spent many years in Louisiana politics as Executive Assistant to the Governor of LA, the 1st Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Transportation, Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Resources (as it was once known).

He was owner of the infamous Good Neighbor Restaurant (floating yacht) in the harbor in New Orleans West End, culminating in owning G.E.C., Inc. until it was sold in 2019.

Of all his accomplishments throughout his life, George was most proud of his stint in the U.S. Army. George lived a storied life and met many great people over the years and was a loyal friend. He was a wonderful father; loving, but firm and he was completely steadfast in his devotion to his wife, Lillian and devoted his life to her happiness.
