Mr. Horstmann, a lifelong Chatfield area resident, died Saturday (Jan. 5, 2008) at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, where he had resided since December 2003.
Raymond William Horstmann was born Sept. 21, 1917, in Jordan Township, rural Chatfield. During World War II, he served in the Army from 1941 to 1945 and was at Guadalcanal, the northern Solomon Islands, and the southern Philippines. On Sept. 20, 1945, he married Constance Allen in Pleasant Grove. They lived in rural Chatfield then moved into town in 1945. Mr. Horstmann was owner and operator of Ray's Meats in Chatfield for 30 years. He was a member of both the American Legion and VFW for 60 years, and was active in bowling, fishing, snowmobiling and pool.
Survivors include a son, Craig of Rochester; two daughters, Cheryl Danielson (John Means) of Rochester and Debra (Ronald) Brummond of Stewartville; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Elaine Morse of Rochester and Gladys Karver of Chatfield. He was preceded in death by his wife on Oct. 30, 1992, two brothers and a sister.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield, and an hour before the service Tuesday at the church.
