William J. Lewis was a descendant of immigrants from Wales. He was born on April 26, 1847, in Carroll, Georgia; his father, John, was 32 and his mother, Elizabeth, was 30. He married Mary Ann Long on February 24, 1872, in Haralson, Georgia. They had eight children. He died on January 11, 1921, in Bremen, Georgia, at the age of 73, and was buried in Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery where most of his Georgia ancestors and descendants are buried.
