The Rev. Joseph Lathrop, 84, of 4479 Ash Ct., Gladwin, died Tuesday evening in the Gladwin Area Hospital after a long illness. Born in Detroit on December 7, 1899, he grew up there and married the former Elsie Dafoe on March 31, 1928, in Sandusky. They came to Gladwin County in 1958 and founded the Good News Camp on N. M-30. Rev. Lathrop had spent 52 years in the Christian ministry.
Besides his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Winston (Harriet) Decker of Bridgeman and Mrs. James (Carolyn) Fromer of Gladwin; one son Joseph IV; 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother.
Services were held Friday at 2 p.m. from the Round Lake Baptist Church. The Rev. Winston Decker and the Rev. James VanNoord officiated and burial was in the McClure Cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of the Mathews Funeral Home. Gladwin County Record dated 6-13/1984 Column – 5 Page – 2.
