Obituary
Leonard S Picketts Jr, 94, of Marshall, Michigan passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at his home.

He was born on October 13, 1927 to Leonard and Opal (Croghan) Picketts Sr in Akron Ohio.

After graduating high school, he enlisted in the Navy on his 17th birthday. He served in World War II aboard the destroyer USS Hulburt which patrolled off the west coast in search of Japanese subs. He was honorably discharged in 1946. His father had recently passed so Leonard returned home to Ohio to help his mother. In 1947 his mother met and married Guy Howard who had a daughter Elaine. Well, it was love at first sight when he met Elaine. They married the next year on July 27, 1948 in Longview, Texas. Their love story spanned 73 years until Elaine's death in 2021.

Leonard worked and was part owner at Indusco Supply Company in Kalamazoo Michigan where he sold cleaning machines, products, and supplies to local hospitals, schools, and businesses in the southwest Michigan area. He won awards every year for best salesman and had a loyal following of customers who loved him for his honesty and the fact that he always had their best interest at heart. After retiring from Indusco, he went on to work part time at Darlings Hardware in Marshall until he was well into his 70's.

Leonard loved fishing, tending to his home and kept an immaculate yard. He worked with stained glass and excelled at creating beautiful table lamps and windows. In his later years he concentrated on creating smaller stained-glass pieces with the intention of selling them to make some extra money. That didn't work out so well because every time someone would try to buy a piece from him, he'd end up giving it to them instead. He loved to make people happy and was always quick with a smile and a joke. He was always upbeat, never complained and was ready to tackle any obstacle life threw at him.

Leonard is survived by his two daughters; Julia Jenkins of Marshall, Michigan, and Lisa (John) Picketts- Whitney of Marshall, Michigan, his grandchildren; Michele Picketts-Smith, Guy Picketts Jr., Jason (Lisa Nyland) Mazzulla, and Matt Picketts, his six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Elaine, his sons, Leonard (Sonny) Picketts III, and Guy Picketts Sr.

Visitation for Leonard will take place on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services 723 US Hwy 27 N Marshall, Michigan 49068 with funeral services to follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Pastor John Beardslee, Fredonia Holiness Church, officiating. Please come dressed comfortable and casually. Private burial will take place at Oakridge Cemetery in Marshall, Michigan.
