George T. Herft was born in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). He left in 1891 moving to Malaya, Federated Malay States (now Malaysia). He married Evelyn Vander Smagt Felsinger in 1892 at Kuala Lumpur. George worked at the Public Works Department in Seremban, Malaya before joining the Sanitary Board in 1894. He was awarded the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Services Medal in 1915. He retired as a Senior Inspector of the Sanitary Board 31 Dec 1920 after 26 years of service. Sometime after retirement, George retuned to Ceylon where he died in Kandy.
