George A. Fish, retired secretary of the Springfield Marine bank and former county treasurer, died at 2:40 a.m. yesterday, at St. John's hospital. He was 75 years old. He entered the hospital Aug. 16, 1948 as a medical patient.

Mr. Fish was elected county treasurer in 1919. Prior to his election he had served from 1915 to 1919 as chief clerk in the county treasurer's office under George Schwaner. Before the adoption of the commission form of government in 1911, he served as alderman of the Second ward.

After the expiration of his four year term as treasurer, Fish became associated with the Springfield Marine bank, retiring as secretary in 1944. He also served several terms as treasurer of the Republican Sangamon county central committee.

Mr. Fish was born Jan. 19, 1874, in Springfield, the son of Alfred and Jennie Fish. He began work in the general offices of the old C. P. & St. L. railroad here in the late 1890s. He later went to work in the state banking department. He also served as a member of the Illinois emergency relief commission. He was a member of Tyrian lodge 333, A. F. & A. M. He was injured Nov. 6, 1946, when struck by a car in N. Fifth St.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Jayne, and a niece, Frances Partridge, both of city, and one nephew, Arthur Fish, Galesburg.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow at Thomas C. Smith Sons funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery.
