Richard Mathies Sr., 88, of Rt. 1, Maribel, died Friday at home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Maribel, the Rev. Armin Engel officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Mathies was born Aug. 28, 1876, in the Town of Cooperstown, and was a lifelong resident of the township. He was a son of the late Fred and Augusta Frenz Mathies. He married Helen Manke Nov. 21, 1903, at Milwaukee.
Surviving are the wife, two sons, Walter and Richard Jr., at home; seven daughters, Mrs. E. C. (Hilda) Weickert, Mrs. Alma Muffat, Mrs. Elsie L. Edwards, Misses Lillian and Esther Mathies, of Milwaukee, Mrs. William (Loretta) Siebers, of Appleton and Mrs. Henry (Ruth) Kouba of Maribel; a sister, Miss Clara Mathies, of Chicago, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Friends may call at Knutson Funeral Home, Denmark, after 4 p.m. Saturday until 11 a.m. Sunday and after noon at the church.
