A. Robert Anderson (Bob, Mr. Andy) 94 of Stratford Ct. died peacefully in his home Saturday March 12, 2022.

He is survived by his 2 sons Jeffrey (Wendy) & Scott (Kimmie), 2 sisters Fay and Judy, and grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley, his daughter Gail, his sisters Arlene & Lois and his brother Ken.

Bob spent most of his life in Stratford having graduated from Stratford High School. He enlisted and served in the Navy in WWII, attended UConn for 2 years and then got called up and served in the Korean conflict. After being honorably discharged he married the love of his life, Shirley, and they raised their family in Stratford. Bob retired as a self-employed carpenter having built and remodeled many homes. Bob was an accomplished wood worker spending much time making furniture, gifts and items for fundraisers. He was an avid and accomplished sportsman and athlete enjoying hunting, softball, and hockey -you could usually catch him and his dad at local ponds skating circles 'round the 'younger' generation. He also enjoyed hiking, camping, skiing and canoeing, playing cribbage all along the way. Bob was a long time member of The First Congregational Church always stepping up to serve on committees, boards and manning fundraisers. He was a Boy Scout as a youth and as an adult he was a long time Committee Member of Troop 71 sponsored by the First Congregational Church of Stratford. He was proud of his Eagle and Life Scout sons. Bob coached his sons' YMCA basketball and football sports teams, guiding them to many first place seasons. He also belonged to the Indian Guides with his sons. Bob received elder care training and visited many in their homes, nursing homes and hospitals. Along with his wife Shirley he made great strides and improvements in their daughter's life with programs for those with special needs. Together they also gave rides to patients needing chemo treatments. It seemed like everyone knew Bob. He was a cherished friend to many. He was always doing something for others in any way he could. He most certainly left the world a better place for others.

A Memorial Service for Shirley and Bob will be held at 10am Thursday, March 24th at The First Congregational Church 2301 Main Street, Stratford, Ct. 06615. Interment will follow the service at Putney-Oronoque Cemetery.

Donations in his name can be made to Troop 71 Stratford c/o the church or to The Special Olympics, Dementia Research or other such organizations.
