Son of Benjamin Stinson and Pearl McDonald Inman. He graduated from Thomasville High School. He received appointments to both Annapolis and West Point, but was unable to attend because of his color blindness. He attended North Georgia College for two years and transferred to the University of Georgia. At the onset of WWII, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served overseas in Italy. After the war, he returned to UGA and earned degrees in both Mathematics and Business Administration. He was CEO of Stevens Graphics, a large commercial printing company responsible for the printing of the telephone directories throughout the southeastern U.S. Upon retiring from Stevens Graphics, he went into the commercial real estate business with his two sons, Don and John, by starting HMI Enterprises which owned and operated several local Atlanta apartment properties. He was a practicing CPA and passed the Georgia Bar exam without attending law school. He was a member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church where he served as a church elder. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, BettyAnn Boyet Inman; four children, Margaret Inman Wilson "Peggy" and her husband, Scott of Red River, NM, William Edward Inman "Bill" of Palm Coast, FL, Hugh M "Don" Inman, Jr. and his wife, Beth, and John S Inman and his wife, Tish - both of Atlanta; nine grandchildren, one great grandchild; and sisters, Jane Shirah of Savannah, and Eleanor "Onie" Turrentine of Atlanta.
