Shirk was a 1941 graduate of Mount Penn High School.
He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, serving in Burma and China.
Mr. Shirk was an avid golfer, playing at Arrowhead Golf Course, Douglassville.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two nieces, Kathy J., wife of Daniel W. Fick Jr., and Patricia S., wife of John Lehr; and three great-nephews: Matthew Fick, Michael Lehr and Jordan Lehr.
He was predeceased by a sister, Jane N. (Shirk) Billinger, on May 11, 1980.
