Married Frank Bishop Rice in White Oak,N.C on Dec.26,1904. Mamie as she was known and Frank had eight children-Bessie Cornelia,Velma Kate,John Bunion,Hazel Gertrude,Wilbur Whitson,Swannie Grace,Edith Marie and Frank Bishop Jr.Celebrated 73 years of marriage before their deaths in 1978.Mama Rice and Papa Rice were complete opposites. Mama was as outgoing as Papa was quiet. The only living girl with 5 brothers she learned to hold her own early in life. She loved to joke and scare grandchildren-even great grandchildre-by dressing up as a tramp or putting a stocking over her head and peering in windows at them. Everyone loved her joking ways and zest for life. She and Papa weathered some very bad events as well as many happy ones. Buried 3 of their 8 children which caused a lot of sorrow. Made great pound cakes and always had one ready for me when I visited. Her loss will always be mourned but we feel blessed by her long life.
