Edward P. Andresky, a resident for 50 years of West Poplar Street, Grove City, passed away at 4:10 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, in UPMC Montefiore, Pittsburgh, of an illness he had since September 2010. He was 78. Mr. Andresky was born July 5, 1932, in Imperial, Pa., to Joseph and Elizabeth H. Herrick Andresky. He was a graduate of Slippery Rock University, class of 1959. Mr. Andresky retired in June 1992 from Grove City Area Schools, where he was employed since 1959. Ed taught at Highland Elementary from 1959 to 1962, and was a fifth grade teacher and served as principal at Leesburg School from 1962 to 1984. He moved to Hillview School in 1984 and continued to teach fifth grade until his retirement in 1992. During the Korean conflict, Mr. Andresky served in the Airborne Division of the Army in Alaska; he was a member of American Legion Post 220, Grove City. He belonged to Knights of Columbus and was a former board of directors member of MCAR (Mercer County Association for the Retarded). He was a member of Church of the Beloved Disciple and was a former Boy Scout leader of Troop 81, which met in East Main Presbyterian Church, both Grove City. Ed enjoyed fishing and traveling and, for the past 20 years, spent winters with his wife in Texas. His wife, the former Alice P. Sandman, whom he married Sept. 1, 1956, survives at home. Also surviving are: four children, Stewart Andresky and his wife Paula, Mercer; Bryan Andresky and his wife Pam, Grove City; Beth Jones and her husband Ron, Hopewell, Pa.; and Amy Grace and her husband Scott, Grove City; six grandchildren, four great-granddaughters and a sister, Helen Bonach, Florida. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Emma Lynch; and four brothers, John, George, Jim and Bill Andresky. Calling hours were Sunday (1-2-11) in Cunningham Funeral Home Inc., 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City. Memorial service was Sunday in the funeral home with the Rev. John Culp, senior pastor of Tower Presbyterian Church, Grove City, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Andresky's memory to American Cancer Society, 3208 B Wilmington Road, Box 5037, New Castle, PA 16105.
