John E. Adelman, 64, of Drums, died at Forbes Hospice in Pittsburgh on Monday after a long battle with cancer.

John graduated from Central High School in Scranton and was a veteran of the United States Navy.

He retired from the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in 1997 after 31 years of service and later started the Insurance Brokerage Service in Hazleton, where he worked until 2005.

John was a past exalted ruler of the Hazleton Elks Lodge 200, where he currently held the chair of esquire.

He was also a member of the Young Men's Polish Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abe and Olga (Mozurkewich) Adelman of Scranton. John was the beloved father of Christine and Doug Roe of Zelienople, Pa., and loving grandfather to their children, Ashley and Michael.

He is also survived by five siblings, Esther Adelman, of Scranton; Lois Raj, of Amherst, Mass.; Harry Adelman and wife Mary Beth, of Clarks Summit; Bruce Adelman and wife Carol, of Clarks Summit; Debbie Orgill and husband John, of Blakely; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
