Edward Walter German, 75, of Bonita Springs, FL passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 surrounded by loving family and friends. Ed was born in Baltimore, MD on January 29, 1947 to Ethel Viola German [Simpson] and Jonathan German. He was raised in Towson, MD and attended Towson High School. Ed enlisted in the Navy assigned to active duty on the USS Telfair [APA-210]. During his time in the Navy, he also served as Honor Guard for both Arlington National Cemetery and the White House. He was honorably discharged as a Seaman E-3 in 1967. He honorably served in the US Army Reserves until 1971. Once discharged from military service, he briefly worked as a Certified Machinist. He joined the Baltimore City Police Department working the Eastern District and Traffic Divisions [Motorcycle, Traffic Investigation and Radar] serving from 1969-1989. While working as a police officer, Ed earned an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice. In 1978, he moved his family to Parkton, MD where he lived until "retiring" to Bonita Springs, FL in 1991. During "retirement" he had many more careers including selling and installing pool and water systems, lawn service, handyman, boat sales and Goldsmith. He loved Bonita Springs and enjoyed fishing, boating, treasure hunting on the beach, and was a Certified Scuba Diver. Ed had a full life. He was a loving, caring and generous husband, father, brother and friend. He never met a stranger, always lent a helping hand, and gave a kind word to those in need. Your time of hard work and service has peacefully ended Ed. Rest in peace "Over the Rainbow". You will live in our hearts FOREVER.

Ed was preceded in death by his first wife of 10 years, Teresa Mehl; parents, Ethel German [Simpson] and Jonathan German; half-sister, Etta; aunts, Helen Hoffman, Mildred Adams, Amelia German, Helen German, Doris German, and Beaulah German; uncles, Carroll Simpson, James Donald Simpson, Walter Simpson, Howard Simpson, Irving German, Edward German, Charles German, Howard German, and Warren German; and step-grandson, Jeremy Joseph Ferris.

Ed is survived by his wife of 43 years, Nancy [Zakrajsek] German; daughters, Christine German Ferris [German] (Richard) of Roanoke, VA, Karen Lynn Waldrop [German] (Keith) of Watkinsville, GA; and granddaughter, Emily Waldrop. He is also survived by brothers, John German (Nancy [Kane]) of Roxbury, CT/Stuart FL and Stephen Carroll German (Virginia "Ginny"[Singley]) of Boise, ID; nieces and nephews Janet Arnold, John German, Laura German, Keith German, Emily German and Stephanie German; half- nieces, Gloria and Susan; step- grandson, Jacob Ferris; cousins, Joy Kiser, Donna Lock, Charles Frederick, and Danny Hoffman; sisters in-law, Diane Z. Byers (Alan) and Janice Z. Casper (Michael); and brother-in-law, Fred D. Zakrajsek (Patty).

A Celebration of Life will be held at Ed's home on June 4, 2022 from 3 PM to 7 PM. Date and time of full military honors funeral and inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia will also be announced once scheduled.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed's honor to the Cat Alliance of Naples, FL (https://donorbox.org/support-the-rescued-cats-and-kittens-of-the-naples-cat-alliance) or another no kill animal shelter in your community.
