Rachel MOSELEY was the eighth and last child of Capt. Joseph MOSELEY (1670 - 1719) and his wife Abigail ROOT Moseley (1680 - 1773). Rachel was born in Westfield, Hampshire County, Massachusetts Bay Colony on September 11, 1715.

Her first husband was Lieut. Daniel POMEROY. Rachel and Daniel were married in Northampton, Hampshire County, Massachusetts Bay Colony, on November 4, 1736. This followed the early death of Daniel's first wife (Mary CLAPP Pomeroy) on June 6, 1734, just 2 weeks after the birth of their one son Pliny POMEROY.

Rachel and Daniel lived in Northampton after their marriage, where the POMEROY family appear to have had significant property. Between 1737 and Daniel's death in 1755 they had a total of nine children:
-- Daniel POMEROY (b. November 3, 1737, Northampton)
-- Abigail POMEROY (b. September 19, 1739, Northampton)
-- Abishai POMEROY (b. June11, 1741, d. Jan 21, 1742, Northampton)
-- Timothy POMEROY (b. April 16, 1742, Northampton)
-- Rachel POMEROY (b. January 14, 1744, Northampton)
-- Jerusha POMEROY (b. March 7, 1746, Northampton)
-- William POMEROY (b. May 8, 1750, Northampton)
-- Eleanor POMEROY (b. December 20, 1752, Northampton)
-- Justin POMEROY (b. July 20, 1755, Northampton)

In mid-1755, Daniel POMEROY was appointed a Lieutenant in the Hampshire Militia and served along with his brother Lieut. Col. Seth POMEROY. They set out for Upper New York State to face off against the French and their Indian allies. Before leaving, Daniel had written a detailed will which basically split his estate between Rachel and his two eldest sons, Pliny and Daniel, with smaller bequests to his other children.

Daniel never returned home, being one of the 150 or so militiamen killed in an ambush at Crown Point beside Lake George on September 8, 1755. On September 11, his brother Seth POMEROY wrote to Rachel to inform her of her husband's death. A copy of that letter is included in Daniel's FaG memorial bio.

After nearly 8 years as a widow raising a large family Rachel re-married to Moses DEWEY, on June 9, 1763, in Westfield. However, this marriage was to last only 4 years since Moses died in Westfield on March 16, 1767.

After Moses' death in 1767, Rachel appears to have returned to Northampton and died there on February 1, 1797. No gravestone has been found. Some of her children and Pomeroy family are buried in Bridge Street Cemetery in Northampton, and that is the likely location of her grave.
