Son of Lars Hansen and Olea Olsdatter Kvenerud who was born in Hangseiert, Hadeland Norway, before Norway gained its independence from Sweden. Emigrated to the United States, date and location unknown, eventually settling in North Dakota. Upon arrival, he Americanized his surname from Kvenerud to Quanrud to better fit the pronunciation. He married Guro Torgersdatter Elkin on 3 October 1886. There were two children born to this union: Olina (Quanrud) Bjornstad and Theodore Quanrud. He owned an auto parts business in Bismarck, North Dakota.
