John S. Kitchen, 69, of Casey Way, died April 25 at the Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia. He was born in Evanston, Ill., the son of Wilmer and Beatrice (Segsworth) Kitchen. He grew up in Sharon, Mass., and graduated from Mount Hermon Prep School, in Mount Hermon, Mass. He also attended Park College in Missouri and Boston University.

He resided in Concord, Mass., for more than 35 years and has been a summer resident of Meredith since 1936 and resided here permanently since 1982.

He owned and operated Kitchen and Kutchins Inc., a manufacturers representatives company in Lexington, Mass., for many years until his retirement in 1980. After moving to Meredith, he owned and operated Up Country Sun Spaces for more than 5 years.

He was a very active member of the New Hampshire Lakes Association. He served on the board of directors for several years, and also served on many committees. He was co-founder and past president of the Waukewan Shore Owners in Meredith. He was a Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Helen L. (Riester) Kitchen of Meredith; four children, Cynthia Hogan of Concord, Stephen P Kitchen of Concord, Mass, David C. Kitchen of Yarmouth, Maine, and Thomas P. Kitchen of Concord; six grandchildren; and two nieces.
