Gordon R. Allen, Jr., 78, lifelong Shrewsbury resident, known to most as Richard, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 25, 2022 in the comfort of his home.
He leaves his sister, Martha H. (Allen) Thomas, of Shrewsbury, his nieces and nephews, Amanda M. Davidson, Evan J. Thomas, and Matthew A. Thomas, all of Shrewsbury; his grand niece and nephew, Abigail and Daniel Davidson, whom he adored; along with several cousins. Gordon was predeceased by his parents, Gordon R. Allen, Sr. and Martha C. Reed; and his brother-in-law, Gary W. Thomas.
He was born in Worcester, raised and educated in Shrewsbury; graduating from Shrewsbury High School in 1962, where he also was involved in Civil Air Patrol. Gordon then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, spending over 22 years serving his country proudly. He retired in 1988 as Master Sergeant. Gordon will be remembered for his love of reading and learning about Military History.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to a charity of ones choice.
A graveside service, with U.S. Air Force honors, will be held privately for his family at Mountain View Cemetery. The Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home is honored to be assisting with arrangements.
