Joe Ben Maynor, 73, died suddenly at his home Tuesday, January 16, 2018. Funeral services will be held 3:30 P.M. January 20, 2018 at Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale. Visitation will be from 2:30 P.M. until the 3:30 P.M. funeral.
Ben graduated from Clarksdale High School in 1962, and earned his Master's Degree at Delta State University. He taught school at both Ruleville High School and Washington School before returning to his hometown to begin a long career with the Mississippi State Employment Commission. After retiring in 2000, he and his wife Elaine moved to Brandon, MS, where he greatly enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren. He is a member of Brandon Baptist Church.
Ben is preceded in death by his parents, S.C. and Adele Maynor; his brother, Robert Carr; his sister, Betty Sturdivant, her husband, Carrol; and two nephews, Michael Sturdivant and Robbie Carr.
He is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Elaine Ware Maynor; his son, Joe Ben Maynor, Jr. (Jobe) and his wife Priscilla; his grandchildren, Landon Joseph Maynor, Annsley Marie Maynor, Logan James Maynor; and his nieces, Debby Preslar and Carolyn Newell.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Research Hospital or the American Heart Association.
