Born in the Farmington community of Marshall County, Tennessee to Ethel Garrett and Elmore Oscar McCullough. Ruth grew up on the family farm with her four brothers. She graduated from Forrest High School in Chapel Hill in 1950 where she was a member of the women's basketball team and was elected Miss Forrest her senior year. With the help of her older brother, Mac, she soon moved to Nashville and found an administrative position with a company downtown. While shopping for a present for her younger brother JImmy at Levy's on Sixth Avenue, she spotted the handsome young man who would become the love of her life, Nick Foster. They married in April of 1956 and shared 61 years together before Nick's death in 2017. Ruth wore many hats over the years, stay-at-home mom, supporting partner in Nick's Granny White and Seven Hills Drug Stores, School Patrol Mother at Glendale Elementary and many years as a Special Education Bus Driver for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools. She enjoyed driving, gardening and observing nature in her backyard. She took particular interest in keeping abreast of her neighborhood's goings on from her front window.
She is survived by her brother, Jimmy McCullough; two nieces, two grandnephews; three daughters, Yvonne Abernathy (Robert), Suzanne Green (Tony), and Maureen Sagar (Donald); seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
