Nancy J. Sammons, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on May 2, 2022.



Nancy was born in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Sara (McGovern) and Harold Smith. She graduated from Ursuline Academy and worked in the aftercare program at St. Elizabeth Grade School where she was a parishioner. Prior to working at aftercare she volunteered for Faithful Friends Animal Society and was a member of the Claymore Senior Center and Women's Group from Ebenezer United Methodist Church.

Nancy was predeceased by her husband Francis J. "Mike" Sammons in 2004; her parents, Sara (McGovern) and Harold Smith; and brothers, Harold Smith, Jr. and David Smith, and daughter-in-law Kathy Sammons (Chuck).

She is survived by her children, Francis J., Jr. and JoAnne Sammons of Wilmington, DE, Ann and Scot Sowden of Wilmington, DE, Michael and Kathy Sammons of Wilmington, DE, Chuck Sammons of Lewes, DE, Joseph and Holly Sammons of Wilmington, DE and Sara and Perry Douglas of Wilmington, DE. Also surviving her sister-in-law Patricia Drzewicki and her husband John of Wilmington; grandchildren, Scot, Shane, and Stephanie Sowden, Shannon Taylor; Kristin, Kelly, Michael, Amanda, Chuck and Joseph Sammons, Ryan, Cory, Kelsey, Travis and Trevor Douglas; and 15 great grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 on Monday, May 9, 2022 from 10:00AM to 12 Noon. A memorial service will begin at 12 Noon. Burial will be private in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Faithful Friends Animal Society, 12 Germay Drive, Wilmington, DE 19804.
