Julia Houlihan was born to Michael and Catherine (Welch) Houlihan in Tipperary, Ireland. She came to America with her parents about 1848 and in 1857 they settled in Nebraska.

On April 16, 1871, she married Peter Murray. They had a daughter, Katherine B. (Murray) Porter, MEMORIAL ID # 77518343.

After Peter Murray's death in 1874, Julia married Peter Berger/Burger in about 1899 and they lived in Auburn, Nebraska. After his death in 1903, she made her home with her sister, Katherine O'Brien, in Nebraska City. She then went to live with her daughter, Katherine B. Porter, in Washington D.C. Julia died at the home of her daughter, cause of death said to be old age.

Julia was the grandmother of Grover M. Porter of Nebraska City and Jack Porter of Washington.
