Fred Cunard Covalt, 91, of Simpsonville, SC, went home to be with the Lord and reunite with his wife on Wednesday, May 4, 2022.
Born on May 18, 1930, in Everett, PA, he was the son of the late William Dorrance Covalt and Helen Gladys (Cunard) Covalt, and stepson of Helen Adaline (Conlon) Covalt.
Fred was a 1948 graduate of Bedford High School. After High School, he joined the navy where he was trained to work on and fly planes during the Korean Conflict. On January 17, 1951, in Trinity Lutheran Church in Bedford, PA, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, the late Lou Ann (Barnett) Covalt, who preceded him in death in 2011. They were happily married for over 50 years.
Fred retired from AT&T and then worked for Eastern Airlines. Through his many adventures in life, he and his family were able to live in many different places which gave him the opportunity to enjoy his hobby of photography. Fred's other hobby, for which many remember him, was building an exact replica of the Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus of 1932. Each wagon, tent, and figurine was a piece of art.
Fred was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Mauldin, SC where he served the Lord faithfully. Throughout his life, he served on church Councils and played the organ for various churches. He was a quiet man in his faith but his charity and love towards others was shown daily in his actions. He was one who continuously had a smile and good word for others. He was the "good Samaritan".
A thirty second Mason, Fred was also very active with the Shriners and was a member of Yaarab Shrine Temple, Atlanta, GA. He was heavily involved in raising money for the Shriners Hospitals for Children that provide "Compassionate, innovative care that improves the quality of life for children and their families."
He is survived by his two daughters, KathiAnn Cunard (Covalt) Devoe and husband, Walter, and Kristina Dianne (Covalt) Aldred and husband, Russell; as well as many wonderful grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Fred was a loving father and Papa as well as a devoted husband. He was loved and will be missed by many, but we rejoice in knowing that he is with the Lord and his many loved ones.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church followed by the funeral service at 12:00 noon. Interment will be in the Everett Cemetery, Everett PA.
