He was born May 15, 1940, in Terre Haute, Ind., to Wallace Carter and Helen Maxine (Adair) Plunkett.
He graduated from Glen Ellyn High School in Lombard, Ill., and soon thereafter enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
Upon his discharge, he moved to California, where he met his first wife, Patricia Ann Leonberger. She survives.
They were married 32 years when divorced.
He was a teamster truck driver for Honolulu Freight in California.
He and Patricia moved back to the area with their four sons and opened and operated Nutwood Grocery.
He again drove a truck, hauling grain for farmers and working for Conoco in Hartford.
He retired as a fuel hauler for Commercial Transport in Belleville. He was a member of the American Legion.
In his spare time, he enjoyed operating his ham radio.
He married the former Mary D. Robinson on May 3, 1997, at their home near Fieldon. She survives.
Also surviving are four sons and three daughters-in-law, George "Jeff" Plunkett, Michael and Crystal Plunkett,
Paul and Patty Plunkett and Dana and Tara Plunkett, all of Fieldon; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Marian and Robert Scott of Fieldon and Heather and Mark Benedict of Greenfield; seven grandchildren; Brittany, Kendra, Nichole, Jamie, Carissa, Trevor, and Alane; two stepgrandchildren;
three sisters; Patricia E. Hooper of Gilbert, Ariz., Brenda Krise of Paris, IL. and Linda Kennedy of Terre Haute,
Indiana; two brothers; William Gene Plunkett of Plainfield, Indiana, and David Plunkett of Terre Haute Indiana.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his much loved stepmother, Idonia (Donie) Plunkett.
Visitation was from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Internment was private.
