Angela (Balestra) D'Amato, 86, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Tuesday with her family by her side. Born in Italy, she resided in Syracuse for over 50 years and was a lifelong communicant of Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Angela was a very unselfish woman who put other's needs before her own. Angela enjoyed cooking for her family and hosted many Sunday dinners and holidays. Nothing was better than her fried meatballs and sauce. She also enjoyed crocheting and making cookies. Angela was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was happiest spending time with her grandchildren. Angela is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Pietro D'Amato. Survivors include her son, Anthony (Lucy) D'Amato; daughters, Giovanna Fitzgibbons, Mary (Aaron) Petty, and Palma (Jeff) Cassano; grandchildren, Brian, Gina, Peter, Luke, AJ, and Juliana; brothers, Otto (Vicki) Balestra and Tony (Joanne) Balestra; many relatives in Syracuse, Italy, and New Jersey. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff on 6 Floor North at Crouse Hospital and Buckley Landing for the wonderful care and compassion given to Angela. Private funeral services will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to one's charity of choice. FARONE & SON Inc Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
