One of seven members of Bathurst High School Phantoms senior varsity basketball team killed when their van collided with a tractor-trailer in icy driving conditions. A teacher, Beth Lord, wife of the coach/driver also died. Four other passengers survived and were transported to hospital for treatment.
Javier, age 17, wore No. 14 on the BHS Phantoms boys' basketball team. He also played soccer and was a passionate fan of Arsenal and Brazil. He planned to attend the University of New Brunswick in the fall to pursue a career in medicine. Javier is survived by his parents, brother, three sisters, and other family and many friends.
A funeral service was held at the KC Irving Civic Centre in Bathurst, New Brunswick on January 16, 2008.
