Don Carlos Ashby

Don Carlos Ashby is the son of Sarah Elizabeth Markham and William Ashby Sr. He was given a baby blessing on December 1, 1892 by Andrew M. Ferguson and baptised September 2, 1900.

He married Hulda Effie Johnson April 3, 1918 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was called on a Stake mission November 14, 1949.

When the family was small they lived just north of the family home in Vernal, in a little house. They later moved to Provo where Don worked at the Roberts Hotel. Later they moved to Salt Lake City, Utah and ran a Boarding House. Don stood erect and was careful in his appearance. The family was friendly and made you feel very special. Hulda was a neat housekeeper and dressed neat. The whole family was special.He was a devoted church member, good husband and loving father. All who knew him loved and respected him.

While he was irrigating on the Church Stake Farm he was stricken and died on July 2, 1951. He was serving as the High Priest President of River View Ward.

Funeral services for Don Carlos Ashby, 58, of 624 South Seventh West St., who died Monday at 12:30 p.m. in a Salt Lake City hospital, will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. at Riverview Ward Chapel, Seventh South and Ninth West St. Christian Aure Garlick, second counselor in the ward bishopric, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, will officiate.

He was born August 16, 1893, in Spanish Fork, Utah County, a son of William and Sarah Markham Ashby. He was married to Hulda E. Johnson, April 3, 1918, in the Salt Lake Temple.

Mr. Ashby was a steel mechanic and was employed at the Structural Steel and Forge Company.

He was formerly president of an elder's quorum in Pioneer Stake and at the time of his death was high priest group leader in Riverview Ward.

Surviving are his widow, Salt Lake City; a son, Gordon B. Ashby; Los Angeles, California; three daughters, Mrs. Enid Long, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Donna Jenkins, Montrose, Colorado; Mrs. Reva Sharp, Pittsburg, California; a brother, Elias Ashby, Spanish Fork; two sisters, Mrs. Leona Hall, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Mary Smith, Santaquin, Utah County and six grandchildren.

Friends may call at 260 East South Temple St. Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Friday prior to 11 a.m. and at the ward chapel from 12:30 p.m. until time of services. Burial will be in the Lehi Ward Cemetery.
