She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace in Bellingham, Washington. Already an accomplished musician, she began by teaching music and later taught music, along with other subjects, in classrooms in Seattle, Mercer Island, Bellevue, Port Angeles, and Wenatchee, in Washington, also South San Francisco, California, and Nelson, British Columbia, Canada.
For ten years Ida Mary taught music in grades 1-8 at St. Anne School in Seattle. This included musicals, recitals, and other performances. She also played the organ in many parishes. More recently she shared her gift of music with the community at St. Mary-on-the-Lake, where she played piano joyfully for community liturgies and celebrations.
On the occasion of her 75th Jubilee, Ida Mary reflected: "When I entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace, I thought I was doing something wonderful for God, but in truth it is God who has done great things for me! My life in community has been one of opportunity, challenge, personal growth, and spiritual development. I am eternally grateful for the prayerful support of my sisters, friends, and companions on the journey."
Ida Mary leaves behind many dear family members and friends including her nieces, nephews, grandnephews, and grandnieces. She brought light, laughter, and love to everyone she met, and her presence will be greatly missed by all those who loved her.
A Vigil Service will be held on Monday May 30, 2022, at 4:00PM followed by the Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at 11:00 AM both at St. Mary-on-the-Lake, 1663 Killarney Way, Bellevue, WA 98004.
