Francis T. "Giebie" Giebler, 81, Hays, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at Hays Medical Center. He was born July 20, 1926 in Menasha, Wis., to Ted and Elizabeth (Karlin) Giebler.

He married Velma Weigel on May 15, 1950, at St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria.

He was a 1944 graduate of Hays High School and attended Fort Hays State College. He was a grocer and graphic artist for 37 years at C.O. Mammels Grocery Store, Food Bonanza and U-Save. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Army Infantry during World War II.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, church choir member for more than 57 years, Legion of Mary, Perpetual Eucharistic Adorers, former member of, S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A., High Plains Barbershop Chorus, German Men's Choir, Sunflower Chapter of the American Society of Germans from Russia, lifetime member of VFW Post 9076, American Legion and 40-8 member.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter, Mary Beth Braun and husband, Marcel, Manhattan; a brother, Robert J. Giebler, Valley Center; a sister, Betty Wood, Haviland; and two granddaughters, Lauren Braun and Michaela Braun, both of Manhattan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Charlotte Giebler; a sister-in-law, Viola Giebler; and a brother-in-law, Norman Wood.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, both at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine. A Perpetual Eucharistic Adorers rosary will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday, a Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6:30 p.m., followed by a parish wake at 7 p.m., all at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Masses in care of the funeral home.
