Gerry Jane Abney Dirmann, age 93, entered into eternal rest on May 16, 2022, at her home surrounded by loved ones. Born to Stephen Abney and Margaret Cahill Abney on June 4, 1928, Gerry was a lifelong resident of Abita Springs, Louisiana.

She was a devoted parishioner of St. Jane de Chantal where she was baptized, confirmed, and married in her Catholic faith. Following her graduation from Lyon High School in Covington, Gerry married the love of her life, Joseph Michael Dirmann, and began her rewarding and most fulfilling career as a dedicated homemaker. Gerry and Joe were blessed with four children who they lovingly raised within the shadows of her childhood home.

Gerry was humble, kind-spirited, and possessed a quiet strength. She developed an eclectic eye for design and style that she displayed through many years of service with the Abita Springs and Covington Garden Clubs. She was a loyal supporter of our Nation's military and was an active member of the Homer Williams VFW Post 8720 Ladies Auxiliary for many years. She lived her life in color and was a keeper of things. Gerry was an avid newspaper clipper and notoriously carried a camera for capturing life's special moments, all of which now comprise a collection full of memories.

Of all of her talents and pleasures, Gerry's role as wife, mother, and grandmother most significantly defined her life.

She is survived by her children, Jane Dirmann Weick (Wayne), Annette Dirmann McCormick (Alvin), Michael Joseph Dirmann (Karen), and Jennifer Dirmann Davis (William). Gerry was the proud "Gee Gee" to six grandchildren, Christopher Weick (Heather), Sean Weick (Christy), Bailey Dirmann Morse (Ryan), Barker Dirmann (Shannon), Madeline Stoltz Abernethy (Benton), and Sara McCormick Myszakowski (Aaron) and ten great-grandchildren. She is also remembered by her nephew, E. Stanley Erickson, three nieces, Anne Kiesel Roark, Stephanie Kiesel Alahmed, and Nancy Abney, together with a host of other relatives and friends.

Gerry is preceded in death by her loving husband Joseph Michael Dirmann, her parents, Stephen and Margaret Abney, and her siblings, Stephen Abney and Marguerite Abney Kiesel.

Gerry was unique, well-respected, liked, and will be deeply and dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

The Dirmann Family extends heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all of Gerry's caregivers, but particularly Maria Huhn and Danell Brown for their constant support, companionship, and devotion to Gerry over the years and in her final days.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Jane de Chantal, 72040 Maple Street, Abita Springs, Louisiana 70420 on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at 1:00 PM with visitation beginning at 11:00 AM until service time. Interment will follow Mass in Abita Springs Cemetery.
