He graduated from Auburn University in 1968, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta, and later served as a First Lieutenant in the US Army in the Vietnam War, earning the Bronze Star Medal.
He was married to his high school sweetheart, Mary Lillian Strong, on December 21, 1965.
Roy had a distinguished career as an executive in the business aviation industry, culminating in his role as President of Raytheon Aircraft and member of the board of directors for multiple corporations.
Outside the office, Roy was an accomplished pilot, sailor, astronomer, radio operator, and devout Christian who enjoyed spending time with his dog Henry.
He is survived by his wife , his son, grandchildren, and sister.
A graveside service in his honor will be held Monday, May 23, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham.
