Norman Gary Abbott, 73, of Leeds, died Thursday, May 8.

He was born in Milan, N.H., on April 17, 1930, the son of Stevens M. and Vera O. (West) Abbott. At the age of three he moved to Sumner and was educated in Sumner schools.

Gary married the former Joyce Berry on March 14, 1954. In his younger years he worked in the woods with oxen and horses and later worked construction at the Middle Dam at Richardson Lakes, as a welder and carpenter with Reed & Reed on Maine bridges and most recently with Daniels Construction at Boise Cascade in Rumford.

He was known as a shade tree mechanic and loved to be in the outdoors. He loved animals of all kinds and raised horses and blue tick hounds.

He was predeceased by two brothers, G. Glenn Abbott of Hartford and Sidney Abbott of Sumner; and three sisters, Ruby Abbott, Helen Crockett of Sumner and Sylvia Niles of Winthrop.
