Lucy L. Garrett, daughter of Jacob and Catherine Alcombrau Garrett married James Lain in Jones Co., IA in 1855. James died before 1882. They had seven children while living in Iowa, prior to most of the family moving Sacramento County CA. In 1897 Lucy was visiting her son John in Plattsmouth NB to help with a new grandbaby. While there she died unexpectedly.
Lucy left daughters Melissa and Clara, and sons George, John, Thomas, William and Andrew.
When she married the family name was spelled Lain. Many of the family who moved west spelled the name Laine, but several, including Lucille's sons Thomas and John, changed the spelling to Lane.
Burial was 17 August 1897 in Lot 80, Section 2-A, Plot 2. The lot with 8 plots is owned by John L. LANE. Lucille has no headstone.
