The Western Advocate Aug. 14, 1896:

Elijah E. Brown, a pioneer settler and highly respected citizen of Holmwood township, was born in New York May 7, 1819. died in Jewell county, August 11, 1896, his age being 77 years, 3 months and 3 days. Mr. Brown was united in marriage to Sarah Alright (NOTE: correction SARAH L. WRIGHT) in May 1845. (NOTE: correction married March 20, 1855) Seven children were the fruits of this union. In 1873 he moved with his family to Kansas locating in Holmwood township, where he resided until his death. He was a prosperous man and a member of the Christian church for a number of years. The funeral services were conducted by Elder O. L. Smith Wednesday and the remains were interred in the Burr Oak cemetery.
